WUST Highlights Cybersecurity, AI and Future-Ready Education at Digital Finance Conference 2026 in D.C.
The participation of the Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) emerged as a key highlight at the First International Investment and Digital Finance Conference 2026, with its Chairman and Chancellor Abubokor Hanip delivering a strong message on the future of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and education in digital finance.
Held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington DC Convention Center on April 17 and 18, the conference brought together global leaders, policymakers, and financial experts from across South Asia and the United States to explore pathways for secure and innovative financial ecosystems.
The two-day conference, organized by the In Search of Root Foundation (ISRF), is centered on the theme “Building Pathways for Secure Digital Finance.” It aims to strengthen financial cooperation between the United States and South Asian nations including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Nepal.
The sessions also featured prominent panelists including Kamal Quadir, Syed Mahbubul Alam, Osman Siddique, Chris Rodriguez, and Md. Hakimuzzaman, with moderation by Anika Rahman.
WUST Highlights Cybersecurity and Future-Ready Education
Speaking as a panelist in the session “Future of Intelligent Banking: AI, Risk and Innovation in 2026,” Mr. Hanip emphasized that cybersecurity must be at the core of digital transformation in finance.
“As financial systems become increasingly driven by artificial intelligence, cybersecurity is no longer optional- it is foundational,” he said. “Without strong safeguards, innovation cannot sustain trust in digital finance.”
He also raised concerns about the privacy risks emerging from AI-powered financial services:
“AI-driven businesses bring enormous opportunities, but they also introduce complex privacy challenges. Addressing these challenges is essential to protect users and maintain confidence in digital platforms.”
Highlighting the role of education in navigating this transformation, Mr. Hanip stressed the need for institutions to adapt quickly:
“Education must evolve alongside technology. At WUST, we are committed to building real-world, future-focused classrooms where students develop practical skills aligned with industry demands.”
“Our mission is to prepare graduates who can confidently step into mid- to senior-level roles, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital finance,” he further added.
Conference Focus: Strengthening Digital Finance Ties
In his opening remarks, Raihanul Islam Chowdhury described the initiative as a critical step toward building a collaborative financial future.
“This is not just the beginning of a conference, but the launch of a meaningful dialogue on shaping the future of investment and digital finance,” he said.
Policy Dialogue and Industry Insights
A major session titled “Public-Private Dialogue on Financial Policy, Payments Reform & Cost Efficiency” addressed the need for harmonized regulations and efficient cross-border payment systems.
Notable speakers, including Harry K. Thomas Jr. and Dr. Birupaksha Paul, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in reducing transaction costs and improving remittance systems- vital for South Asian economies.
Experts highlighted that secure digital finance requires coordinated policy frameworks, technological innovation, and strong consumer protection measures.
Looking Ahead
The conference will conclude with a plenary session on the future of intelligent banking and discussions on strengthening investment flows between the US and South Asia, along with the presentation of the USA–South Asia Digital Finance and Investment Excellence Award.
By placing cybersecurity, innovation, and education at the forefront, WUST’s contribution-led by Mr. Hanip- underscored a central message of the conference: the future of digital finance depends not only on technology, but on trust, skills, and global collaboration.
