Empowering Voices and Transformative Journeys Mark Women’s History Month Celebration at WUST

More than a hundred accomplished women gathered at Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) for an inspiring Women’s History Month event that redefined what a professional gathering can be—transforming traditional networking into an immersive and meaningful experience.

Titled “Rewriting the Narrative: Women Building Careers on Their Own Terms,” the program brought together professionals from across the DMV region to explore leadership, career growth, and the power of intentional career design. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Association of Black Women in Project and Program Management (ABWIPPM) and the Project Management Institute Washington DC Chapter as part of the celebration of Women's History Month.

A Powerful Panel of Women Leaders

The evening featured an accomplished panel including Mrs. Farhana Hanip, Chief Financial Officer of WUST and President of PeopleNTech;  Lennecia S. Eley of Georgetown University; Amalisha Sabie-Aridi; Ratima Kataria; and Tareka Wheeler.

Moderated by Felicia Tribble, the discussion highlighted real, unfiltered journeys—focusing on resilience, career pivots, leadership growth, and redefining success at every stage.

Launching the WISE–WE Fellowship

A defining moment of the evening was the official launch of the WISE–WE (Women Entrepreneurs) Fellowship Program, announced by Priya Kothari.

Designed to support emerging women entrepreneurs through mentorship, resources, and institutional backing, the program saw immediate momentum—with more than 10 women signing up during the event itself.

More Than an Event—An Experience

Guided by a vision to elevate traditional formats, the WUST Marketing and Special Projects teams—led by Jose Ortega, Director of Marketing—set out to create something more than a panel and networking session.

The result was a fully immersive experience.

From a breathtaking cherry blossom–inspired environment to a stunning floral feature wall that became a focal point for connection and storytelling, every detail was intentionally designed to create a space that felt both elevated and welcoming.

This thoughtful curation transformed the event into a multi-dimensional experience—engaging attendees not only professionally, but socially and emotionally.

Connection, Community, and Lasting Impact

Beyond the panel, attendees participated in structured networking and interactive breakout sessions led by Laurin Kelly and Kanika Tolver. These sessions provided deeper opportunities for engagement, focusing on career advancement and consulting in project management.

WUST’s project management student volunteers also played a critical role, ensuring seamless execution and a welcoming experience for all attendees.

As the evening concluded, one thing was clear—the impact extended far beyond the event itself.

It created a space where women could connect authentically, share openly, and leave inspired to take the next step in their journey.

Looking Ahead

Through initiatives like the WISE–WE Fellowship and experience-driven programming, Washington University of Science and Technology continues to expand its commitment to empowering leaders, fostering innovation, and building meaningful community connections.
