Spring Culture Fest 2025 Recap: A Joyful Celebration Of Diversity At WUST

On Friday, May 16, WUST came alive with color, music, and global pride as the university hosted its annual Spring Culture Fest. Held from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the campus parking lot, the event brought together around 150 students, faculty, and staff for an afternoon of celebration, learning, and cultural appreciation.

Designed to highlight the rich diversity of the WUST community, this year’s Culture Fest featured a vibrant mix of student-led performances, interactive games, cultural booths, and food from around the world. With clear skies and a lively crowd, the event embodied the values of inclusion, collaboration, and respect that define the WUST experience.

Performances, Games & Fashion
The main event was full of excitement, kicking off with a spirited badminton tournament that drew both competitors and spectators.

Then the audience was treated to a series of cultural dance and song performances by talented WUST students, including Sonia Akter, Kritika Khati, Shristi Gurung, Dorine Gibson, Sharmin Aktar, Priscilla Parajuli, and Faiza Tahsin. Each performance reflected the performers’ cultural roots and personal passion, and the crowd responded with enthusiastic applause.

Students also had the opportunity to participate in jianzi, a traditional East Asian game involving a feathered shuttlecock and quick footwork. Students gathered around to watch and join in, making it one of the most memorable moments of the day.

Finally, the event closed with a cultural fashion show, where students modeled traditional attire from their countries, proudly sharing the beauty and meaning behind their cultural garments. It was a powerful visual reminder of the global diversity that lives within the WUST community.

Cultural Booths & Interactive Activities
Beyond the stage, Culture Fest offered a series of student and staff-run cultural booths, each representing a unique slice of global heritage.

  • The Brazilian Culture Booth, led by Kelly Pinto, invited attendees to explore Brazilian traditions, customs, and fun facts.
  • The Chinese Culture Booth, hosted by Chenchen Yang, Yan Jiang, Xiaoman Ji, and Eric Cao, offered insights into traditional Chinese arts, language, and games, drawing curiosity and appreciation from attendees.
  • The Language Exchange Booth was a standout favorite where student volunteers Fabia Tasmeem, Samita Shrestha, Aerlik Chhetri, Roselin Bista, and Priya Dangol engaged students in fun conversations across multiple languages. Visitors learned greetings, slang, and cultural expressions from around the world.

Another interactive highlight was the "Cultural Traditions Wall", a booth where students were invited to write and post their favorite traditions from their own cultures. The wall quickly filled with colorful notes reflecting everything from holiday foods and family customs to dances, rituals, and sayings passed down through generations. It became a meaningful symbol of WUST’s shared values and individual stories.

The always-popular Henna Booth gave attendees the chance to experience traditional body art, beautifully applied by Samita Shrestha and Sonia Akter, who volunteered their time and talent to offer intricate designs to dozens of students.

Spring Culture Fest 2025 was more than an event, it was a living expression of WUST’s multicultural spirit. Whether performing on stage, sharing traditions at a booth, or simply connecting with new friends over global appetizers, students came together to celebrate what makes each culture unique and what brings us all together.

A huge thank-you goes out to the student performers, volunteers, booth leaders, organizers, and all who attended. Your energy and enthusiasm made this event a success and a joyful memory for our campus community.

We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Culture Fest—and to continuing our tradition of honoring the voices, cultures, and connections that shape the WUST experience every day.
