Dr. Hyun Lee

Associate Director of General Education and Professor, School of Business

Dr. Hyun Lee is a scholar practitioner in the field of Asian American Identity and Student Experiences in Higher Education.

Dr. Lee joined the Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) in 2014 as a professor in the School of Business and she currently serves as Associate Director of General Education.  In this newly created role, she directs academic operations across all general education programs and advises on the quality of the WUST student experience.

Dr. Lee has been a champion for the empowerment of Asian American communities.  Her background includes more than 15 years of experience in organizing, advocating, building coalitions, and working at the grassroots, local, state, and national levels. This includes key positions on Presidential, General Assembly, and local political campaigns.

Dr. Lee currently serves as an advisor to Peter Damon Group and as a member of the George Mason University, Mason Korea Campus board.  Most recently, she served as a member of the Virginia Governor's Council on Women and a member of the Virginia Asian Advisory Board, Culturally Relevant and Inclusive Education Practices Advisory Committee, Commonwealth’s COVID-19 Education Work Group, and the Virginia Complete Count Commission for the United States 2020 Census.

 
Dr. Lee is a 1.5 generation Korean American who came to the United States as a foreign student at the age of 16. She holds a Doctor of Education Degree (EdD) in Education Policy and Leadership from the American University School of Education, an MBA degree in Management from the Johns Hopkins University Carey School of Business, a Master’s in Government from the Johns Hopkins University Krieger School of Arts and Science, and a Bachelor’s in International Affairs from the George Washington University Elliot School of International Affairs.
